New Grantmaking Process and 2023 Grantee

In March 2023, MSC implemented a grantmaking process that evaluated organizations based on state activities and EEFA aligned areas of work while allocating additional funds to projects based on their relationship to frontline communities and DEI work.

In doing so MSC granted to each organization funding that were based on the following criteria:

  • Alignment of the organization’s activities with EEFA’s mission
  • Degree to which organization’s activities are accountable to the community it serves, measured as the level of involvement, representation, feedback, and continued engagement with communities most impacted by economic inequality and/or structural racism. The highest score given to frontline-led organizations and/or work.
  • Inclusive and anti-racist core values, measured by diversity at the leadership and staff levels.

The defining features of these grant awards included:

  • Two-year grant terms: April 2023- March 2025.
  • Award amounts starting at a $100,000 minimum and capped at a $180,000 maximum.
  • Awards were project focused: Projects’ scope of work and grant deliverables were informed by responses provided in the Core Funding Requests and in the Listening Sessions and were outlined in grant agreements.
